Once ¡°Supernatural 1-4 DVD Box Set¡± gets started, it cannot be stopped.
When I watched the season one premiere of ¡°Supernatural DVD Box Set¡± four years ago, I believed two things. Ghost Whisperer DVD Box set First, this show would never last. And second, it was right up my alley.
After about seven years of ¡°Buffy The Vampire Slayer Seasons 1-7 DVD Boxe Set ¡± and ¡°Angel¡±, demons and ghosts had been deconstructed beyond the breaking point. Not that this was a bad thing ¨C as dimension-hopping cybernetic demons shooting acid from their eyeballs was the source of untold comic genius in the Whedonverse. The X Files DVD Box Set But it also gave less-talented hacks a chance to toss out the conventions in the name of creativity.
¡°Supernatural 1-4 DVD Box Set¡± brought us back to the blue-collar basics. Whatever was written in folklore was unquestionably the truth (with the exception of Santa Claus¡¯ evil twin brother.)Ghost Whisperer DVD Box set And there¡¯s no back-up ¨C no Watchers¡¯ Council, Buffy The Vampire Slayer Seasons 1-7 DVD Boxe Set no BRPD and certainly no FBI - just two guys in an Impala touting the firearms section of Wal-Mart with lots and lots of rock-salt.
The core of ¡°Supernatural DVD Box Set¡± is undeniable in its simplicity. If you stripped away all the ¡°Supernatural DVD Box Set¡± from this show ¨C the demons, the angels, the monsters, and the ghosts ¨C you wouldn¡¯t be left with nothing.Smallville DVD Box Set Instead, you¡¯d be left with a Western, with sibling white hat cowboys on the run, chasing down a sinister variety of black hat bandits while dodging the law.
The strength of such a focus makes ¡°Supernatural 1-4 DVD Box Set¡± a definitively American epic (yes, even though it¡¯s shot in Vancouver). Stephen King brought the vampire from Gothic Transylvania to sleek suburbia in ¡°Salem¡¯s Lot.¡± The X Files DVD Box Set Similarly, creator Eric Kripke brings the epic battle between good and evil to a different Midwestern locale week after week in a focused folkloric narrative that hasn¡¯t been done this well since Stephen King¡¯s ¡°The Stand.¡±
If the show¡¯s Main Street landscape is strange, the TV geography of ¡°Supernatural¡± is downright paranormal on the CW. For years, its closest network companions were the glitzy Superman prequel ¡°Smallville DVD Box Set ¡± and the underrated comedy ¡°Reaper¡±, but most recently ¡°Supernatural 1-4 DVD¡± has been saddled with the CW¡¯s blossoming teen fang show ¡°The Vampire Diaries.¡±Buffy The Vampire Slayer Seasons 1-7 DVD Boxe Set One glance of the CW¡¯s website reveals similar show after similar show, with chic youngsters in trendy clothes.Ghost Whisperer DVD Box set How a show with all the fashion appeal of Farm & Fleet lasted this long is a mystery to me,Medium Seasons 1-5 DVD Boxset but perhaps it shows the working-class hero isn¡¯t as gone or forgotten as prime-time would have us believe.
This brings us right back to the music ¨C with a soundtrack filled with classic rock anthems and entirely devoid of the pop sound-bytes.Ghost Whisperer DVD Box set In fact, the only recent music release featured in ¡°Supernatural DVD¡± was a new Rolling Stones track from the ¡°Bloody Mary¡± episode.Buffy The Vampire Slayer Seasons 1-7 DVD Boxe Set The music has been a major selling point, setting the show apart from its time slot competitors.
More to the point, the music reinforces the classic Americana mythology, though in recent years the music has been used less and less in the show¡¯s soundtracks. Smallville DVD Box Set The latest episode ¡°Abandon All Hope¡± showed a return to classic form, featuring a demon watching ¡°Triumph of the Will¡± and an angel drinking shots ¨C all to classic rock tunes.
¡° The X Files DVD Box Set ¡± always claimed to be the successor of ¡°Kolchak: The Night Stalker¡±, but I don¡¯t think I ever really bought that. As you can probably guess, my money is on ¡°Supernatural DVD.¡± Yes, both ¡° The X Files DVD Box Set ¡± and ¡°Kolchak¡± have a penchant for government cover-up¡¯s, but part of the fun of ¡°Night Stalker¡± was watching Carl Kolchak swindle through police crime scenes and dingy lairs alike. Medium Seasons 1-5 DVD Boxset Heck, Carl had it easy with an INS badge ¨C all the Winchesters have is whatever they can whip up at Kinkos.Ghost Whisperer DVD Box set In truth, no one can ever really come close to matching the late, great Darrin McGavin, but between Jensen Ackles¡¯ blue-collar intensity and Jared Padalecki¡¯s manipulative self-deception, I hold that ¡°Supernatural 1-4 DVD Box Set¡± is the characterized successor to ¡°Kolchak: The Night Stalker.¡±
¡°Supernatural DVD ¡± has lately moved from the monster-of-the-week to all-out Armageddon, and if there¡¯s one thing the show has proven, it¡¯s that it¡¯s a juggernaut when firing on all cylinders. The show has its fair share of hits or misses, but in all four past finales, I don¡¯t think I¡¯ve been disappointed once. As the final season once again picks up this January, I confess I¡¯m at peace with the end. Would I like more ¡°Supernatural 1-4 DVD¡±? No, not really ¨C not when I didn¡¯t think this show would make it this far four years. What I want is more Winchesters ¨C and what ¡°Supernatural DVD Box Set¡± is really about is two brothers kicking the ass of everything between this life and the next. Medium Seasons 1-5 DVD Boxset As the show¡¯s doomsday clock strikes noon, I¡¯m on board to see whatever Kripke and company have in store for the Brothers Winchester.
Richard Pulfer won¡¯t be with us for the final ¡°Supernatural 1-4 DVD Box Set¡± episodes. Instead, he¡¯ll be taking the time off to finish up several comic projects, including the webcomic ¡°Yonder¡±, and his own answer to the supernatural, Ghost Whisperer DVD Box set ¡°Bat & Wolf. ¡°Yonder¡± will start in March 2010, but you can read the first issue of ¡°Bat & Wolf¡± here.¡±
